Sunday February 15, 2009 - Ontario Masters 2009 Indoor Pentathlon Championships @ York University (TTFC)

**Rhona sets THREE W60 Canadian Records!**

The Ontario Masters Athletics Indoor Pentathlon Championship Meet was held on the weekend at York University. Rhona Trott of the Hamilton Olympic Club won the W60 event with a Canadian record 3838 points.
In the first event of the day, Rhona ran 11.49sec to break the Canadian record for this event that she set two weeks ago. (950 points) Her high jump result, 1.12m (736 points) was better than her previous effort this winter, but still not as good as it could be. Rushing through the shot put, she could only get 8.04m (760 points) with the 3kg implement, but managed 3.66m (654 points) for the long jump - a distance only 6cm off her indoor personal best. The pentathlon finishes with a 800m run. Rhona ran her best time in two years with a 3:08.49 effort (738 points). Her point total of 3838, also meant that she won the Trophy for the highest aggregate score of all pentathletes in the meet.

For those of you have been to York University, you know that the sand pit and the throwing cage are side-by-side. Due to the dangerous nature of the event, the weight throw is never staged while either the long or triple jumps are being done. As soon as the pentathlon and open long jumps were finished, the weight throw was started.
Due to the scarcity of officials, this meant there was a short break in the pentathlon programme; the men had to wait while the weight throw was being contested.
As it turns out, Rhona had entered the weight throw competition in addition to the pentathlon, so she had sufficient time to do this event before the start of the 800m. On her first throw, she managed a PB of over 70cm! However, she continued to have a fantastic series of throwing PBs with her best being 11.99m - for another Canadian record, her third of the day!

February 21-22, 2009 - AO Youth and Senior Championships @ York University (TTFC)

Katie Klodnicki of the Hamilton Olympic Club led the way in the Athletics Ontario Youth/Senior Championship Meet on the weekend. She threw 13.15m to win the gold medal in the weight throw for youth girls. Chantelle Robbertse had a busy time as she equaled her personal best in the high jump with an eighth place leap of 1.50m. Lindsay Wallace ran 8.69sec for a personal best in the 60m race.
In the youth boys division, Steve Murray finished in 24.02sec, while Kurt McClure had a tenth place result of 55.84sec in the 400m. He also ran a strong 2:12.31 in the 800m race.

Sunday March 15, 2009 - Ontario Masters Winter Mini Meet #4 @ York University (TTFC)

The Ontario Masters Athletics group held its fourth mini-meet of the indoor season. Competing in her first race, ever, Maki Kajiura, W35, of the Hamilton Olympic Club, ran the grueling 3000m event for her introduction to track and field. Despite running the first lap a bit too quickly, Maki persevered for a well-earned 13:47.91 result.
Meanwhile, Rhona Trott W60, stuck to the shorter races. She won the seldom-contested 50mHurdles in a Canadian record 9.57sec, followed by a seasonal best of 9.62sec in the 60m. Still having difficulties in the 3kg shot put event, but, perhaps, finally figuring out her problem, she managed a toss of 8.11m. The weight throw had a more successful result as she managed to heave the 12lb implement 12.03m for a Canadian best in the age group. To finish off the day, Rhona ran her first 200m race in over a year in a solid 32.57sec.

Sunday March 29, 2009 - Ontario Masters 2009 Indoor Championships @ York University (TTFC)

Rhona Trott, 60, of the Hamilton Olympic Club finished off the indoor season with another solid set of performances at the Ontario Masters Association track and field championship meet.
Starting the day with the shot put, she recorded a mark of 8.10m to earn the gold medal. Then, she ran 75.44sec in the 400m race to not only set a meet record (old mark: 77.30sec), but to also set a new W60 Canadian record. This was followed by another meet record (old record: 9.28m) in the weight throw as she heaved the implement 11.92m. Her third meet record was an 11.33sec performance in the 60mHurdles (old record: 13.05sec). Since she had to run over 30inch barriers, again, this is technically a Canadian record, too. Her fourth meet record and fifth gold medal of the day came in her last event as she sped to 32.95sec finish in the 200m (old record: 34.97sec).
Rhona was also honoured with the OMA "Female Jumps Athlete of the Year for 2008" based on the W55 records she set in the high jump and long jump.

The Senior Girls competition also saw a plethora of personal best performances. Becky Morrison was second in the 400m with a strong 1:04.6 time, as Kylie Hopkins finished in fifth with 1:06.5. Kylie then earned her second place with a 27.7sec finish in the 200m dash, closely followed by Kristen Davidson in 29.1sec. In the 800m race, Marissa Codispodi ran 2:35.4 to earn a third place result.
In the Senior Boys 1500m race, Alec Mannarino placed second with a fine 4:41 clocking, while Liam Smith came fifth in 4:51, followed by Austin Robillard in 4:59. Liam also had a PB with a 63.47sec result in the 400m, not far behind Arty Coventry-MacDonald's 58.3 sec fourth place finish. Austin also had a fine 2:29 performance in the 800m. Jake Verrips came away with a fourth place finish in the 100m as he ran 12.8sec, followed by 26.2sec for sixth place in the 200m race. Liam, Austin, Jake and Arty combined for a hard-fought first place finish in the sprint medley relay as they ran 1:57.2.

In another part of the province, Katie Klodnicki competed in the London Throws Series. She won the youth aged discus competition with a fine result of 40.48m, while midget-aged Alyssa DiCesare came third in the York University Throws Meet with an early-season discus toss of 24.69m

The Ontario Masters Association Throwers Club held its first throws pentathlon in Stouffville. Rhona Trott, W60, finally broke the 3000point barrier by 58points. She threw the hammer 23.64m in the 'official' competition, but managed to improve that to 25.56m after the fact. The shot put distance of 7.76m was a disappointment, but an 18.73m discus throw was a good result. A personal best throw of 19.37m in the javelin helped increase the point score, as did the final 10.45m heave in the weight throw.

Sunday May 31, 2009 - MTA Guelph Track Meet @ St.James Secondary School

We had another great day at the track, with plenty of strong finishes for everyone to be proud of! The weather was uncooperative, with a very cold, and very strong wind.
